The Children of God, later called The Family is a cult that took over many different countries. Faith Jones was raised in the cult and was the granddaughter of the original cult leader David Berg nicknamed Mo. Raised in isolation on a farm in Macau a region in southeast china she only ever knew the family. She was raised reading the Mo letters, the religious texts of The Family and the kids true comics, the simplified version for kids. While this group on the surface did humanitarian work, helping those in need. Underneath the surface is was an excuse for child abuse and rape. Over the two decades that Faith spent in The Family she faced what some would considers horrors, she had much of her childhood stripped away due to the abuse and exploitation she experienced. The book follows her from around 3 years old to when she is in her early 30's and highlights an insiders experience being raised in The Family.

This book was difficult to get through, although it was well written and interesting. At points you are so invested you can't put it down because you need to know what happens next. I am not usually a fan of non-fiction but the book was written more like fiction, although everything that happened was factual. There are huge trigger warnings for child abuse, child exploitation and rape that if you are sensitive too make this impossible to read. But if you are looking for a cult book that gives you some insight on radical leaders and how they become a hive mindset its a good read.
