Grace or Porter as most people call her has just finished her PHD program in Astronomy. As a treat from her father, her and her best friends celebrate in Vegas. But while wrapped up in the champagne colored dream that was a slightly drunk night, she marries someone she doesn't know. She comes back to reality and tries to find out more about Yuki, the girl who she now shares wedding vows with. But as she realizes what the real world might hold for her she starts to stress about the perfect plan her father, a stern military man, has set out for her. Life after her doctoral program is not what she expected, the jobs she worked so hard for haven't been given to her. She decides to spend the summer with Yuki figuring out her next move. The connection the two have depends and brings to light some things Grace never wanted to admit.
This was a solid novel I thoroughly enjoyed. The sometimes flowery language did throw me off while listening to it and I got slightly lost as to what was going on. It also wasn't exactly what I anticipated when it was often tagged as romance, it doesn't have the structure of a romance and more of a coming of age tale, or women's fiction. If you want a solid story with an LGBTQ protagonist this would be a great read, but it does get deep and a little real at times (discussion about mental illness) that may be a little too much for someone. Especially since it happens in the later part of the novel.
