In the future of the universe built in the original run of Sweet Tooth a boy hybrid starts to question the reality he has been living. Each day he wakes up in his small hut, he runs and tries to play. But growing up in isolation with only Father and the Nannies has made him skeptical of the story he has always been told. He decides to escape and in the process finds out that their are still humans alive, 300 years after the plague that wiped them all out. These humans live in an underground civilization hidden away from the virus. The boy who calls himself Gus befriends a human girl name Penny and the two try to find a way for Gus to escape. They are captured by Father and his goons the wood masks and then the true reason behind Gus's existence is revealed.

I honestly think I enjoyed this more that the original run of Sweet Tooth which slightly paled in comparison to the netflix adaptation. But this was a perfect stand alone volume, it had a cohesive story arc and didn't leave any plot holes. I would have loved a little bit more story, not necessarily a second volume but maybe a little more of a peak after the end, an epilogue perhaps? Worth the read for fans of the original Sweet Tooth series.
