Emoni is going into her senior year of school, she has all of the regular struggles of a typical teenager but she has extra struggles too. With her daughter at home even with her Abuela's help she is struggling to find her place, while providing the best life for her daughter. At the end of the day her favorite thing to do is let it all go in the kitchen. Cook up an amazing meal that brings back memories for everyone who eats it. For the first time since she has attended, her school is offering a culinary arts class. Emoni debates on signing up but eventually does realizing she wants to take her culinary career more seriously. But this class brings its own challenges; learning to cook under someone else's rules, a trip to Spain she would have to save up for and learning to trust others.

This book has been sitting on my TBR for the longest time and I am happy I finally got around to listening to it. Acevedo did a wonderful job writing such well rounded characters. They felt like real people you see online or know in real life, which was refreshing. Its a great book to suggest to any teens who are interested in cooking or looking for a book with a diverse range of characters. Definitely worth a read!
