Master Class by Christina Dalcher
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This novel explores what would happen if grades mean more than anything else. The smartest students are given everything they could ask for, but those with the lowest scores are put in boarding schools with no prospects afterwards. Elena Fairchild is a teacher at one of the top schools. But when her daughter fails her big test and faces being sent away to a low tier school she decides to do what's best for her child and follow her. But what she discovers is that there is more at stake then just what school someone goes to.
Grass by Keum Suk Gendry-Kim, Janet Hong
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Telling the story of a Korean girl named Okseon Lee forced into sexual slavery for the Japanese Imperial Army during the second World War, this graphic novel highlights the horrors of war. Not all these horrors occur on the battlefield. This first hand account sheds light on a heavily disputed time in history, that we can only hope will never be repeated.
