Esme Pearl has a babysitters club with her best friend Janis. They babysit different kids all around town. But one night Esme has a weird experience, a kid she's babysitting thinks David Bowie aka the Goblin King comes into her room at night. Esme is put on edge and now a weird new girl is hanging around her and trying to join her babysitting club. When Esme finds out that she is part of a secret order of sitters who harness magic to protect the world from a dimension called the negative she and Cassandra band together to stop the creepy things going on in their small town.

This was a decent read but nothing to really write home about. The constant references to Buffy although I don't believe intended by the author, acted in a negative way. It really just highlighted how the story wasn't original and was just Buffy with "negatives" instead of Demons. The world building was a bit messy and clumsy, there were too many plot holes and unanswered questions for this to feel complete. The nods to pop culture were really nice though and added a good vibe to the story as a whole.

I will read the second one but only because its already out, if I had to wait a year I probaly wouldn't bother. A quick read for spooky season, and an easy addition to your goodreads challenge.
