Gus is a trusting young boy who just happens to be a animal hybrid. After the death of his father to a terrible disease that has seemingly wiped out most of the population, Gus follows Jepperd aka Big Man to a place called the Preserve. At the Preserve he can live out his days with other animal hybrids like himself. Jepperd protects Gus who he calls Sweet Tooth due to his love for chocolate and candy as they travel to the Preserve.

I did pick this up because I watched the netflix series this past weekend. It was nothing like the show which is normally how it goes with adaptations of novels. However I have to admit I enjoyed the show more. It was more wholesome and less needlessly violent. The blood and guts and dead bodies didn't really add to the storyline. You could say it highlights how bad the disease is but inevitably you know how bad it is already. Especially considering Gus's father wanted to hide him from it in isolation. I would recommend this to those who enjoy apocolypse stories and I'm interested to see where this story goes from here.
