Graphic Novel Round up of 2021 (So Far)

I am a huge graphic novel fan, so here are some graphic novels I really enjoyed that I read in the first part of 2021!

Scott Pilgrim Vol. 1 by Bryan Lee O'Malley
4 Stars

A super cute quick read. If you are a fan of the movie this is a great place to start! I read the color edition because that's what my local library had. I plan on reading the rest I just haven't gotten around to it.

Die Vol. 1 by Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans (Artist), Clayton Cowles (Letterer)
4 Stars

I did read all 3 of the first volumes of this series so far this year. It is well written and beautifully illustrated. It does portray itself as a sequel which is a tad confusing, but it is an ejoyable read.

Vol. 2 - 4 Stars
Vol. 3 - 4 Stars

Zoom 100 Vol. 1 by Haro Aso, Kōtarō Takata
3 Stars

I was given a copy of this manga from Netgalley in exchange for a review. It was a typical Zombie storyline with nothing super new and interesting. I did enjoy it but not enough to continue with the series.

The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen
5 Stars

I absolutely loved this. Between the stunning art and the feel good story this was a perfect read. It's a great Middle Grade read that I would suggest to anyone. It retells classic Vietnamese fairy tales while the main character is struggling trying to come out to his parents.

Bionic by Koren Shadmi
2 Stars

Don't be fooled by this gorgeous cover, the art inside looks nothing like this. This was just a book, it wasn't terrible but the art was unimpressive and the characters were very easy to hate. A girl gets into a terrible accident and is made into the first human android.

Sea of Stars Vol. 1 by  Jason Aaron, Dennis Hopeless, Stephen Green (Illustrator), Rico Renzi (Colorist)
3 Stars

A fight for father to reunite with his son after their spaceship is destroyed. It was an interesting read but not enough to make me want to read the next one.

Fangs by Sarah Anderson
3 Stars

Cute and well illustrated. Not much of a plot aside from a vampire and a werewolf slowly falling in love. The main characters outfits are to die for!

Spy X Family Vol.1 by Tatsuya Endo
4 Stars

I made a whole post about this series. It's about a Spy, a telepath and an assassin all living under one roof without the other's knowing.

Vol. 2 - 4 Stars
Vol. 3 - 4 Stars
Vol. 4 - 4 Stars

Something is Killing the Children # 14 & #15 by James Tynion IV
4 Stars

This series is still so good! Three volumes in and I still read every each each month and wait until the next comes out. Monsters in this world are real and one organization is out to kill them.

Ruby Falls by Ann Nocenti
4 Stars

Years after a murder Lana is obsessed with solving what really happened. Her grandmother is slowly forgetting everything and they both try to piece together what really happened. An interesting read with decent art, not a super satisfying ending however.

WYND by James Tynion IV, Michael Dialynas
4 Stars

A story about a boy with magic in his blood in a world that doesn't accept that. It has quite a bit of death for what I would say is a middle grade novel but the premise is interesting and it's wonderful to look at.
